Unplug the Christmas Machine

I am currently reading the book Unplug the Christmas Machine which I am borrowing from a friend. It focuses on what the holiday season should be about (traditions, family, love) and less about the commercialism that seems to be the focus. Thus fits in perfectly with my goals for the holiday season and life in general.
I printed off the Christmas Pledge that is in the beginning of the book and framed it. It sits on our mantle as a reminder of what's important.

THE CHRISTMAS PLEDGE
Believing in the beauty and simplicity of Christmas, I commit myself to the following:
1.  To remember those people who truly need my gifts.
2.  To express my love for family and friends in more direct ways than presents.
3.  To rededicate myself to the spiritual growth of my family.
4.  To examine my holiday activities in light of the true spirit of Christmas.
5.  To initiate one act of peacemaking within my circle of family and friends.

That sounds like a neat book. I like the pledge! Good for you for following that pledge! It can't be easy. I'm going to look into reading that book.
